You can use the update tool to view/download and verify your current firmware file for version information etc.
The current version is 1405071132,
Anything older will end in a lower number, if that makes sense?
In general the easiest way to tell what fw version you have is by serial number, if the 4-8th digit contain a number higher than 0417 its a good bet you have the latest version.
I would not recommend the firmware update unless you are experiencing the dipping issue on a digital connection, even then an alternate connection is your best bet.
If you have a Samsung TV that cannot connect via AUX or Bluetooth I would apply the update. If this is not the case I would not apply the update unless absolutely necessary.
